How to calculate the power for heating

If you want to calculate the necessary power to heat your home, in this article you will find the formula. You will realize if your installation has been over dimensioned.

We use a coefficient for it: 30

1.- Define the square meters that you want to heat (do not include garage, box room or other space that is not necessary to heat).

2.- Ceiling height

3.- Minimum outside temperature (during winter -3ºC average).  If this average is more the coefficient has to be reduce and otherwise. For example:

Minimum outside temperature: -3ºC ….coefficient 30

Minimum outside temperature: -8ºC ….coefficient 35

Minimum outside temperature: 5ºC ….coefficient 22

The following step is multiply the square meters by the ceiling height, and then you will get the cubic meters.

The heat necessities for 100 square meters home with 2,5 meters ceiling height and a -3ºC minimum outside temperature is 7500W. We consider this power has a 30% security margin in case the home does not have a good isolation.

As I just told the isolation is an important factor like as the doors and windows do not let the heat escape through it.

But, what is a good thermal isolation? It is when in summer the room temperature does not increase more than 25ºC during the day with an external temperature of 35ºC or more.
