Today I talk about pollution and health now, I usually talk about the environment thinking about the future.
In large and small meetings where the environment is discussed, programs are made to reduce pollutant emissions for the future and that’s fine.
It is not necessary to be an expert to distinguish the air we breathe in the cities and the one we breathe in the countryside, in the mountains or by the sea in undeveloped areas.
I spend part of the time in a small town in Castilla outside the town center in a house with a high-tech electric heating equipment and when a car passes in front of my house, it leaves a trail of bad smell from the exhaust pipe for a few minutes, I also have to endure the chimneys of the heating with combustion boiler of some neighbor, both are unbearable because the air is polluted and our instinct tells us that we are attacking our health.
In the countryside a car passes and our instinct tells us “care danger to your health”, in the city thousands of cars pass by and our instinct is stunted and tells us nothing, but our body is being brutally attacked.
Making a simple analysis of the functioning of the human body, the air we breathe is vital for the proper functioning of all systems. The body is made up of trillions of cells that make up all the structures and are continuously consuming to stay alive, carbohydrates and oxygen.
What happens when a person stops breathing oxygen, who dies, what happens when a cell stops receiving oxygen, who dies. What happens when millions of cells that make up the structures and organs die, which cease to function properly and the disease, muscles, bones, heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, veins, arteries, brain, etc. occur.
What is the emotional and economic cost of diseases? How many people die daily worldwide because of the lack of oxygen in the air they breathe?
Today, August 7, 2019, billions of people living in cities around the world are getting sick from the lack of oxygen in the air they breathe. It is good that we think about the future but it is an aberration that we are not all aware of the problem of lack of oxygen in the air of cities. If there were no food, people would mobilize even with violence to demand it, because we have to do the same if oxygen is lacking.
In 1969 I participated in a movement in the media against pollution caused by coal and fuel in the air of Madrid, we knew that in areas where there was vomiting on the sidewalks were areas of high pollution. In 1971 we managed to ban new heat installations with coal and began to burn in the combustion boilers a product less polluting than fuel and which forced diesel to burn from 1976.
Since then and almost 50 years have passed the city council of Madrid has not created norms to improve air quality, it is true that gas is burned that is less polluting but still emits CO2.
Since 2014 I have carried out research work on air quality in closed sports facilities and I have made several CO2 measurements and in all of them there are usually more than 2000ppm.
I have been able to verify that when a person is in a place with a concentration above 2000ppm of CO2, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and headaches occur, some exercise rooms have measurements above 4000ppm.
The main polluting elements, cars, fireplaces and people in enclosed spaces are perfectly located.
There is an awareness of the need to eliminate cars and plans and programs have been created for the elimination of the most polluted areas of the city and a timetable for the elimination of combustion cars by 2040.
It is urgent that programs and plans for the elimination of the combustion boiler chimneys of heaters and industries are created, it is urgent that the installation of new combustion boilers, whether of gas, diesel or bio fuels, is prohibited and fixed 2040 as the deadline for the change of all combustion boilers.
Current technology is prepared to change all combustion boilers for high performance electrical equipment to produce heat for industry and heating. The pollutant emissions produced in the wind, solar thermal and photovoltaic electricity production facilities are minimal.
We have experience on the situation of new technologies to produce heat since we apply them daily, in all cases the savings in consumption due to high efficiency is greater than 50% compared to combustion boilers, as is the case with cars, traveling 100km with fuel costs about € 7, traveling 100km with traveling 100km with electricity costs € 1.
Think of us in our day to day without losing sight of the future we will leave our children.
